Open Ubuntu menu using Windows Key

windows_keyWhen I was Windows user it was natural to use Windows Key to open main menu so when it became time to switch to Ubuntu (I also tried other Linux distros as primary OSes for my dektop) it felt little bit frustrating Windows Key is useless there. Below is the one-line command to bind your windows key to Gnome menu (Ubuntu main menu). Hope this would be appreciated by other users who ever though about this “problem”.

Open Gnome Terminal and copy/paste the following line there and then press enter:

gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/panel_main_menu --type string "Super_L"

Now press Left Windows Key to open Ubuntu Applications Menu:

Usefull but nothing to do with Ubuntu. That works with all Gnome Destkop.

i alwas use gnome do, to open a program.. thanks but this shorcut make my gnome do what is use super+space cant launch so i disable this feature using
gconftool-2 –set /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/panel_main_menu –type string "<Alt f1>"
